2018 Award Recipient lands CEO Today Africa Award 2019
Hiten Parmar (NDip Elec Eng '06, BTech Elec Eng '08, MTech Elec Eng '12, PGDip Bus Adm '17), the Director of uYilo Electric Mobility Programme has been identified and honoured with
the CEO Today Africa Award 2019.
The awards recognise, identify and honour the most respected companies and their C-level executives operating within Africa.
Researchers at CEO Today determine the eligibility of the Executive based on achievements across growth in revenues and/or profits, successful turnaround, doing well in difficult economic or industry times, expansion into new markets, leading market share, successful M&A integration, new products/services, new business model, and strategy.
Mandela Alumni lands top job
FORD Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has appointed Shawn Govender (ND: Ind Eng '97; BTech Ind Eng '99; BTech Bus Adm '01; MTech '03) as the new plant manager of the Struandale engine plant in Port Elizabeth.
Govender took over the reins in November last year from John Cameron. Govender has an established track record with Ford, having joined the company in 1996 as an industrial engineering supervisor before being appointed as production manager a year later.
Top presentation award for engineering student
Engineering alumnus Michelle Ngugi (Dip: Eng '13; BTech Eng '16), recently won first prize for the best presentation of her paper at the African Laser Centre (ALC) Conference held in Stellenbosch. The Conference serves the purpose of providing a platform for postgraduate students sponsored by the ALC to meet up and discuss their projects and exchange ideas on how to improve them. This is primarily for those interested in working with lasers for various applications.
Law Prof appointed as regional co-ordinator for justice project
Professor Hennie van As from the Department of Public Law at Nelson Mandela University has been appointed as the regional coordinator for Africa (south of the Sahara) and the Indian Ocean Small Island Sates for the Global Access to Justice Project.
The project brings together researchers from all over the world with the sole purpose of seeking out promising solutions to ensure equal access to justice for all. Through the largest academic cooperation network ever created, the project will collect information on the different justice systems, analysing the legal, economic, social and psychological obstacles, which make it difficult or impossible for many to make use of the legal system.
